About City of Edinburgh Swimming

SwimmEdinburgh Swimmers

Few swimming programmes in the UK have made such an impact on the sport in such a short time as City of Edinburgh Swimming (CES). Taking to the water at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh in September 1996, CES rapidly established itself as one of Great Britain’s leading swimming programmes. CES’s brief was to focus on the performance end of the sport, and we are proud that our swimmers have performed with distinction at Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and European and World Championships.

CES is an initiative that was formed by sportscotland, Scottish Swimming and the City of Edinburgh Council in 1995. Its goal was “to establish a World Class swimming structure in the City of Edinburgh”. CES progressed rapidly to become a 'British Swimming' Premier Club and our swimmers currently hold 8 British, 3 Commonwealth, 2 European and numerous Scottish records and titles.

CES has become a club in its own right (as opposed to its original status of composite team). Our purpose is not to overlap with local swimming club programmes, but to enhance the opportunities for talented and committed athletes to make a recognised contribution to Scottish and British Swimming.

Edinburgh offers unrivalled training facilities in local 25m and 50m pools, together with professional sports science support. City of Edinburgh Swimming enjoys the support of many local and national sporting agencies, and takes full advantage of these resources to provide one of the top swimming programmes in the UK. Please explore our website further to see what CES has achieved, and what it can offer to athletes who aspire, and who have the commitment, to compete at the highest levels of our sport.
