Joining City of Edinburgh Swimming

ENTRY CRITERIA
City of Edinburgh Swimming does not apply strict entry criteria to applicants. The emphasis is on the swimmer’s ability and commitment to achieving at the highest level in our sport.
There are three levels of participation within the programme and these are explained in the document entitled “Types of Membership”.
The basis for inclusion in the programme is a swimmer’s ability relating to racing performance. Consideration for entry to the programme consists of:
- Commitment – a full commitment by the swimmer to the training and competition schedule laid out by the Head Coach
- Discussion – an assessment of the swimmer’s needs and objectives discussed between the swimmer, the swimmer’s Home Coach, the CES Head Coach and, where appropriate, the Scottish Swimming Director of Performance
- Age Requirement – normally targeted at females 15+ and males 16+
- Standard – normally at national squad level, but emphasis is on the racing achievements, or potential thereof, of the applicant
- Trial Period – before acceptance into the programme, a trial period will be organised where the Home Coach, Head Coach and swimmer are satisfied that the programme is suitable for the swimmer and likely to achieve the results anticipated.
Considerable resource, both financial and organisational, has been made available to provide access to world-class coaching and training facilities. In return, participants are expected to demonstrate a level of commitment and support commensurate with this investment.
Applications should be made on the standard Application Form and submitted to the CES office at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
