2008 SCOTTISH NATIONALS - SHORT COURSE - GLASGOW

Day 1 - Amazing swimming day for CES

On day 1 of the scottish nationals short course, City of Edinburgh Swimming collected a total of 24 pb's, as well as 2 national records.

Gregor Tait swam a new Scottish record in the 100 IM in the time of 54.87. The record was previously held by fellow teammate Ian Edmond. Kris Gilchrist took the silver in a pb of 55.08, and Dave Leith completed the CES podium for bronze in the time of 56.12.

Gregor also won the 200 backstroke in 1:54.29, Dave Leith won the 50 freestyle in 22.87, Kirsty Balfour won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.45. Kris Gilchrist became scottish national champion in the 50 breaststroke in 28.00, a new pd, while Megan Gilchrist took the title in the 800 freestyle with a pd of 8:40.57. Megan also got the silver in the 200 IM in a new pb of 2:17.82, as well as the bronze in the 100 freestyle in the time of 57.65.

Rob Lang swam a personal best of 3:47.18 to take the silver medal in the 400 freestyle, while the winner Dave Carry broke the Scottish national record.

Michael Jamieson swam a pb in the 50 free heat and final, as well as a pb in the 100 IM heat and final. Iain Macmillan swam a pb in the 100 heat and final, and a pb in the heat of the 100 IM. James Thompson swam a total of 4 personal best times on day 1 of the meet, in the 100 IM heat and final, in the 200 back heat, and in heat of the 400 freestyle.

The relay girls got the silver in the 4x50 IM, with Megan Gilchrist, Kirsty Balfour, Robyn Matthews and Caty Garner in a new CES club record of 1:59.66.

On the last race of the evening finals the CES boys took the victory in a new Scottish record. Gregor Tait, Kris Gilchrist, Dave Leith and Rob Lang swam the time of 1:38.78.
