CES rules in Glasgow, 12 Jan 2008
After day 2 of the 2008 Scottish Nationals, in Glasgow, City of Edinburgh swimmers have recorded a total of 51 personal best times!
Gregor Tait swam an outstanding 200 IM, to win in a new Scottish national record in 1:57.40, more than a second improvement from his personal best time. Gregor was also part of the 4x50 freestyle relay that broke the Scottish national record in the time of 1:30.15. Kris Gilchrist (22.88 leading off), Gregor Tait (22.37), Dave Leith (22.34) and Rob Lang (22.56) composed the golden quartet tonight.
The women's team took the Gold in the 4x50 freestyle relay. Caty Garner, Megan Gilchrist, Kirsty Balfour and Robyn Matthews lead the race from start to finish, and with the time of 1:46.96 they established a new CES club record.
In the 100 breaststroke, Kris Gilchrist swam for the first time under one minute, when he won the final in the time of 59.63 and just beat 2006 Commonwealth Champion Chris Cook from Newcastle. Kris went on and also won the 50 backstroke with a new pb in 26.02.
In others finals, Kirsty Balfour won the 50 breaststroke in a new personal best of 31.56, Megan Gilchrist won the bronze in the 50 freestyle with a pb of 27.05, she also came third in the 400 freestyle with a new 17 years old Scottish age group record. Iain Macmillan swam a pb to take the bronze in the 200 fly final in 2:00.08, while Rob Lang also got the bronze in the 100 freestyle with a second pb (after the morning heat) in 49.80, swimming for the first time under the 50 seconds barrier. Michael Jamieson took the bronze medal in the 100 breaststroke final, swimming a pb in 1:02.28.
On day 2 of the Scottish Nationals, City of Edinburgh Swimming took 6 Open and National titles, 2 national records, a total of 5 bronze medals, and a total of 26 pb's for 44 events swam.
