First of the City of Edinburgh swimmers to take to the pool on Day 1 was Alena Popchanka (FRA) (in her 4th Olympics)
progressed from the heats in the 100m butterfly in a time of 58.40 through to the semis where she just missed out in a place in the finals in a time of 58.55.

Kris Gilchrist in his first Olympics swan close to his PB in the 100m Breaststroke in 1.01.35 but did not manage to qualify through to the next round. Kris will take to the pool on Monday in his favoured longer 200m Breaststroke.

In the finals session Alena split 54.54 in the French 4 x 100m Freestyle relay finishing in 6th place.
