2007 ASA nationals - Gilchrist national champion
After a bronze in the 100 breaststroke, in a new personal best and new Scottish record [1:01.65], Kris Gilchrist won the 200 breaststroke, in 2:12.40, a personal best time.
Kris swam a personal best during the semi-final of the 200 breaststroke [2:12.56], and he also swam a personal best in the heats of the 200 freestyle [1:54.11] “That was a good time although I think I could have gone faster in the last 50m,” said Gilchrist after the race. “I tried something different tonight. I used to pick up my pace on the third 50m. I’ve been doing it earlier recently so decided to try it once again. It seems to have worked because I felt strong, but I’ll look at my times and see how it looked on paper. “I still feel there is more to come and I’ll be looking to make that happen with a bit of rest before I race in Japan at the end of August.”
Kris is racing the 50 breaststroke on the last day of the competition, and will travel back to Edinburgh and train until the 11th of August. He will then travel to Japan with CES teammates Kirsty Balfour and Gregor Tait, train at the 2008 GB Team Olympic holding camp location, and compete at the Japan Open meet from the 21st to the 24th.
